Homemade pizza 

Tonight is pizza night at my home. My boyfriend and I are both making our own pizzas – we make 2 on an account of my body’s reluctance to digest dairy. It’s a fun way to have something that’s usually considered unhealthy in a way that we’ve made actually pretty darn healthy, as far as these things go.

  • Pre-made dough (someday I’ll try my own)
  • Pizza sauce
  • Arugula
  • Daiya cheese, mozzarella style shreds (or regular cheese if dairy is on your “can eat” list)
  • Shiitake mushrooms
  • Sweet cherry tomatoes
  • Sun dried tomatoes
  • Prosciutto

There are some fancy pants sounding ingredients, but I swear it’s delicious. But, really, it’s a pizza, so if you try this at home you can totally pick your own toppings. You can basically put anything on it, like some how pineapple makes sense on the Hawaiian pizzas.


  • Heat the oven to 350• F.
  • Oil up a pan OR put down parchment paper (I went with the paper).
  • Put the dough on a pan and use a rolling pin to flatten it out.
  • Put on your ingredients on – pizza sauce first and cheese last

Cook for 15-20 minutes.

  1. PIZZA DOUGH—Thin crust

    1 cup warm water
    1 package of all purpose yeast
    Pinch of sugar
    3 cups of flour
    ¼ cup cornmeal
    3 tbsp whole wheat flour
    1 tbsp olive oil
    2 ½ tsp salt

    Mix water sugar yeast and sit for 15 minutes
    Blend 3 cups flour, cornmeal, whole wheat flour and salt.
    Stir in oil and yeast water.
    Knead thoroughly. Or knead in a standing mixer.
    May need to add a bit at a time more flour to get proper consistency.
    Rise in a bowl covered with a wet towel — several hours
    Punch down.
    Cut into sections. Roll flat and a lightly floured surface.

    Top with ingredients and bake on a pizza stone, in mid level oven at 500F for 9-12 minutes.

    Makes great thin crust pizza. You need a big pizza peel – a big spatula for getting them in and out of oven—cheap at Amazon
